Hello again B,
I am sorry that it takes me such a long time to check my e-mail. I'm not
always around the lab, and I can only check my e-mail when I am at the
lab.
You do ask some interesting questions. I find it difficult to talk about
my relationship with Dr. Socak, as she tends to work against our efforts
here at the lab more than she works for them. I have forwarded your message,
and asked a friend here to address your interest in her theories.
As for your theories of a lost connection with our species' hallucinatory
nature, I am at a loss as to how to answer that. There is evidence that
certain ancient cultures valued the expressions of individuals who "saw
visions", more so than our contemporary society. Whether these individuals'
skills were valued because of their evolutionary portent, or a longing
to return to a lost state is perhaps impossible to guess.
I find it hard to argue against evolution. An argument that the economy
of hallucinatory communication was a skill lost for lack of need strikes
me as perhaps anti-evolutionary. I can think of no reason that individuals
would find their survival threatened by the ability to communicate through
hallucination. It seems to me that it is always secrecy and hidden motives
that lead to the greatest conflicts between humans, and thus the most
deaths. Thus, I would argue that humanity is evolving into a time of purely
thought based communication rather than returning to a time of thought
based communication. I am of course open to considering all arguments
to the contrary.
Sincerely,
Dr. Harmond
