I found one of father's pills under the bed. It was dusty. He hid it there because he didn't like to take the medicine. He said it made him feel tired and useless, like us.

We found his pills and he always yelled at us for snooping. His arms would wave, and the bed would shake. Franklin ran away laughing, and father screamed louder.

Franklin knew that he couldn't get us. His legs couldn't carry him. Some of us cried and screamed for him to be quiet. Some of us were mad at Franklin for upsetting father more.

Sometimes Franklin took the pills, and he would be very tired. Some of the other children would be tired too. We asked Franklin not to take the medicine, but he liked it too much.

Those were the sleepy days. Franklin was very mad at me when I kept his one. We didn't want Franklin to be addicted to the drugs. Norwood wouldn't trust Franklin after the sleepy days. That is why they are not friends.
